A short title sequence for the Channel 4 series which follows the progress of a basketball competition to find the best undiscovered basketball players in the country. The budget for the graphics was limited and the source material was low quality, so we rotoscoped some footage and layered a lot of grungy textures to the sound design to make a dynamic animation. Created in Adobe After Effects.

The Toybox Feature Film, British Horror Movie
It all began so innocently for two children growing up in England’s bulging rump – the deep, dark countryside of East Anglia. Their imaginations set ablaze by a book on local myths and legends.
Berenice convinces her younger brother Brian that she is the reincarnation of a witch with the powers to put everything right. He on the other hand, is fascinated by a mythical journeyman who once roamed the Fenlands of Norfolk, brutally murdering weary travellers who crossed his path.
As they grow up Brian becomes emotionally dependent on his sister. Years later Berenice returns home for a Christmas gathering with her new boyfriend. Brian who has been left to deal with dysfunctional family life, feels totally betrayed. As the festivities begin an overwhelming sense of impending horror surrounds the house.
Is the enemy outside or within the Usher family home…?

In the video above is a short edit of some of the visual effects DazPix created for the film, including psychadelic warping, snowfall, red burning dog eyes, mirror freakiness and light effects.

The UK Music Hall of Fame was an awards ceremony to honour musicians, of any nationality, for their lifetime contributions to music in the United Kingdom. The Hall of Fame started in 2004 with the induction of five founder members and five more members selected by a public televote, two from each of the last five decades. In subsequent years, a panel of more than 60 journalists and music industry executives decided the people and groups to be inducted. The ceremony was last held in 2006, and has since been cancelled.
DazPix and Huw Davies were asked to provide a series of animations for the documentary program that accompanied the awards ceremony in the style of ‘The Kid Stays In The Picture’. The clips shown in the edited clips above are an example of the series of animations that were created from still photgraphs, scanned, cut out, retouched and animated in Discreet Combustion.

The Great British Village Show is a national institution in which members of the public take huge pride in growing the biggest vegetables, decorating the most sumptuous cakes and creating the most beautiful handicrafts. For many people being the village champion is the highlight of their year, but imagine being the champion of the whole of Britain.

The sequence references the true Britishness of the village fete, including the vegetables and home-made products relating to the competition in a cheeky picture postcard style.
Designed in illustrator and photoshop each character and element was drawn using traditional techniques and animated together with Autodesk Combustion. The scenes were then composited in Flint and Combustion where the final touches were added to create this warm and humorous sequence.

In the space of four weeks, 20 non-actors from the tough, predominantly Afro-Caribbean north-west London neighbourhood of Harlesden got together to put on a production of Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London’s West End. Through satellite link, acclaimed Australian film director Baz Luhrmann helped to inspire and encourage the cast and novice director – highly respected, British stage and screen actor Paterson Joseph. The 90 minute reality / documentary programme was directed by Michael Waldman and It was Winner of the RTS Education Award for Educational Impact in Primetime.
This sequence uses footage from the documentary shoot layered with a tracking shot of a brick wall. The street sign on the wall displays the title of the programme. Autodesk Discreet Flint was used to grade, composite, edit and layer the sequence, as well as track and composite the title signage.

Living in the Sun features the stories of newly arrived house hunters searching for their Spanish dream home and charts the highs and lows as budding entrepreneurs hope to start afresh by launching new businesses in Spain. The successful series is now in it’s fifth season.

This programme graphics package and simple title sequence uses filmed programme material and is layered and animated with Adobe After Effects.
